Our Commitment

Our commitment to equality and rewarding people fairly

Promoting diversity and inclusion sits at the core of our values, how we conduct everyday business, and our long-term growth strategy. We believe it’s simply the right thing to do.

Diverse Workforce

We are recruiting, retaining and developing a diverse workforce that is representative of our local communities.

Inclusive Workplace

We are building an inclusive workplace culture where every employee feels able to bring their whole self to work.

Investing in People

We are investing in our people to promote equality and provide opportunities for everyone to achieve success.

Everyone is empowered

As an independent, 100% employee-owned business, we value the voice of our people. From graduate to director, everyone is empowered to influence and shape our policies.

A key part of our diversity and inclusion strategy is encouraging the involvement of colleagues at all levels. A community, representing all nine protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010, oversees the evolution of the strategy and the implementation of action plans.

Improving understanding and insight

We have established community working groups made up of employees from across the business to help us gather feedback, roll out initiatives and monitor key areas of performance. Our community groups are a voice for change and guide our evolution, helping to build an organisation that is inclusive to everybody.

RLB launched its Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage (REACH) community in April 2023. This group focuses on raising awareness of diversity and inclusion issues so we can better understand and gain insight into the lived experiences of employees from ethnic minorities.

Its members support and champion diversity and inclusion through a range of initiatives including cultural awareness events, in-office lunch and learn sessions, and by distributing learning resources using a dedicated internal communications channel.

Creating an inclusive workplace

An anonymous survey is conducted annually to collate feedback from all employees on their lived experience to help track our progress in promoting diversity and inclusion.

In 2023, we introduced allyship training across the business to guide colleagues on how to take meaningful action and contribute to an inclusive workplace culture.

Among our accreditations, we are proud to be a member of the Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion, the only employer-led membership organisation advising on all aspects of equality and inclusion in the workplace.

As a result of these and other initiatives outlined later in this report, there is now a broader understanding of diversity and inclusion across the whole business and the role everyone at every level can play in supporting RLB to create an inclusive environment.
