Our commitment

Our commitment to making progress on the ethnicity pay gap

Our values – Truth, Trust, Together, Tomorrow – underpin our commitment to making progress happen. We believe that when we bring people together, the right people doing things the right way, we make progress for our clients, communities and colleagues.

To meet our commitment to closing the ethnicity pay gap and ensuring fair reward for all employees, we are taking a number of targeted actions:

Building an inclusive workplace

We are actively working to overcome bias within the construction and property management sectors. This involves recruiting, retaining, developing and promoting a workforce that is both diverse and inclusive.

Representing our local communities

Our approach is centred on attracting and retaining employees who reflect the diversity of the communities in which we live and operate. In doing so, we will ensure our workforce is truly representative of those communities.

Investing in our people's development

We are committed to equipping every individual with the necessary skills to succeed. We encourage all employees to reach their full potential and strive to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable bringing their authentic professional selves to work.

Fairness, transparency, and opportunity for all

By promoting fairness, transparency and equal opportunity, we are shaping a business prepared for future challenges.

Our new diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) strategy aims to benefit everyone at RLB. It acknowledges that each person’s situation is unique and helps us provide appropriate resources and opportunities so everyone has a fair chance at success.

We are focused on making improvements related to the nine protected characteristics: gender, gender reassignment, age, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief, disability, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity.

Our initiatives to recruit more women and create diverse candidate shortlists are showing results, with more female professionals joining us each year.

We remain dedicated to openness about professional development paths and provide skills maps and frameworks for all positions.

Giving everyone a voice at RLB

We value the voice of our people. Central to our DE&I strategy is the active engagement of colleagues at every level of the business, ensuring that every individual, from graduate to director, is empowered to influence and shape our policies.

To support this inclusive approach, we have established communities comprising employees from across the business. These groups play a vital role in gathering feedback, implementing initiatives, and monitoring key areas of performance. They act as catalysts for change, guiding our evolution and helping us to build an organisation that is welcoming and inclusive for all.

One notable example is our REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) community. This group is committed to fostering a workplace where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. Members of REACH coordinate activities that aim to broaden understanding of racial, ethnic and cultural diversity among colleagues, and offer valuable insight to the business based on the lived experiences of colleagues from minority ethnic backgrounds.

As part of its work, REACH conducts annual anonymous company-wide surveys. These surveys help us identify further ways to support all employees in achieving their career aspirations and ensure that managers are considering the development needs of everyone within the organisation.

Through these efforts and other initiatives detailed later in this report, a deeper understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion is developing across RLB. Every employee is encouraged to play an active role in creating a working environment where everyone can thrive.
