Our commitment

Our commitment to making progress on the ethnicity pay gap

Our values – Truth, Trust, Together, Tomorrow – underpin our commitment to making progress happen. We believe that when we bring together the right people doing things the right way, we make progress for our clients, communities and colleagues.

To meet our commitment to closing the ethnicity pay gap and rewarding people fairly, we will drive improvements through:

Building an inclusive workplace

Overcoming bias in the construction and property management industry by recruiting, developing and promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Supporting our local communities

· Supporting the communities in which we live and work by attracting and retaining a workforce that is representative of these communities.

Investing in our people's development

· Ensuring everyone is equipped with the skills they need to excel, encouraged to reach their full potential, and feels able to bring their whole professional self to work.

Fairness, transparency, and opportunity for all

By ensuring fairness, transparency and opportunity for all in everything we do, we are building a business fit for the future.

Our new diversity, equity and inclusion strategy is designed to make a positive difference to all our stakeholders. It recognises that each person has different circumstances and will help us allocate the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome for all individuals and groups.

We are working to improve our business in relation to the nine protected characteristics: gender, gender reassignment, age, race, sexual orientation, religion or belief, disability, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity.

We are committed to transparency in the pathways to professional development and promotion and provide skills maps and frameworks for all roles.

To enhance our understanding of the ethnicity balance within the business, we have developed a digital people metrics dashboard which provides detailed information on new joiners, leavers, attrition rates, and demographic data such as gender, ethnicity and disability. Metrics are broken down by region and service for the financial year, enabling our senior leaders to measure progress against company targets and industry benchmarks.

Everyone has a voice at RLB

We value the voice of our people. A key part of our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy is encouraging the involvement of colleagues at all levels and everyone, from graduate to director, is empowered to influence and shape our policies.

We have established community working groups made up of employees from across the business to help us gather feedback, roll out initiatives and monitor key areas of performance. Our community groups are a voice for change and guide our evolution, helping to build an organisation that is inclusive to everybody.

Our REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) community is dedicated to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed. Its members coordinate activities designed to increase understanding among colleagues of racial, ethnic and cultural diversity, and provide insight to the business on the lived experience of colleagues from minority ethnic groups. This includes annual anonymous company-wide surveys to help us identify further ways we can help everyone at RLB to achieve their career aspirations and ensure that managers are considering the development of all our employees.
